I'm back on the dating scene, sort of

Monday, November, 24, 2008

I’ve been unhappy with my church for nearly two years. And that whole time I’ve done nothing about it but complain. Well yesterday I changed that and decided to visit another church. I had an awesome time and plan to visit again soon.

Yesterday morning before service while I was ironing my gray slacks (which I got on sale for $15 at New York & Company, but I digress) I told my husband I was nervous about visiting a new church alone. I haven’t church hopped since college, I said. Then he goes, “I don’t like this church hopping idea. It’s like dating.”

Then I quipped, “What’s better? An arranged marriage?” You see I decided to join my church mostly because he was already a member there, so an arranged marriage is just what my relationship with the church feels like.

While the hubster has no problem with us attending different churches, his fear is that I’ll keep church hopping in search of a perfect church which, of course, does not exist. And that’s a valid concern. But I’m not looking for the perfect church I’m just searching for the right church.

My husband isn’t a perfect man but he is the right man for me and I wouldn’t have discovered that if I stayed with the wrong guy that I dated in college. So yes, church hopping is like dating. Maybe that’s why I was so nervous, why I was so concerned about what I should wear and why I was so worried about being late.

So it looks like I’m back on the dating scene. Lucky for me church won’t care that I’ve gained a little weight.

analogy when it comes to work...sometimes the job is good to you, sometimes you need to go your separate ways. I'm sure that being on the church circuit is much more important though. Best wishes finding your ideal fit! : )
